Sarah BODDY about 1756 - Birth/Baptism Lookup
« on: Tuesday 21 August 18 11:55 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I'm trying to find the birth/baptism for Sarah BODDY born about 1756 and hopefully add her parents.

She married William VANDERSTEEN on 17th May 1781 in St. Mary's Church, Whitechapel.
They had 6 children and she was buried on 18th October 1822 in Christ Church, Spitafields.

Any help would be appreciated.
Regards
Paul

Hi Tazzie,

Thanks for that it could be a possible baptism, and it's not one I've seen before, the only concern would be the 4 years difference with the approx. 1756 birth.

Hi...

With the 4 year difference the lack of certification at this date the age would have been from a relative so would be their knowledge. I've had one in 1890s where a correction had to be made. Mother died and daughter gave the info required. The son was away at sea and when he returned the mother's correct age was proved. The daughter was out by 7 years.......a new headstone was ordered. The story goes the new one was half the size of the first due to the extra expenses and he wasn't happy.

there is a Sarah Body baptism in 1760 29th Feb at Christ church Spitalfields.

According to the parish register, John was a Soldier, living in Booth Street, and Sarah was 33 days old at baptism.

I wouldn't be concerned about the 4-year discrepancy in age. She would have married at exactly 21 years of age (which was the norm), and the person giving her age at burial in 1822 might not have had accurate knowledge.

Thanks Tazzie & Bookbox, I'll try and get an image of the original register entry, as it's sounds as though that's the right one (based on the fact they were all involved with the weaving industry).

Sorry, but ...

According to the parish register, John was a Soldier, living in Booth Street, and Sarah was 33 days old at baptism.

Still might be the right entry though.
