Help with a location near Sheffield
« on: Tuesday 21 August 18 15:26 BST (UK) »
I am hoping someone might be able to make out the location near Sheffield from the 1861 census in the attached image.

I was wondering if it could be Masbro.

Thanks

I think it might be the abbreviation for Yorkshire  :-\
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Hi Mikegall,
All I can see on your 'Capture 1861' is Yorks - Sheffield. The word before Sheffield I  guess is an abbrev. for Yorkshire.  I see no village or location details within your 'Capture 1861'.

"Yorks, Sheffield". This might not sound terribly useful but in fact it means you can rule out large swathes on the south and west of what is now Sheffield, as they used to be in Derbyshire.
