Ancestry- shameless product placement on Neighbours!

I know I should kick the habit, but confess to being a Neighbours viewer on and off for years.
Today one of the main characters Dr Karl was bemoaning the fact that he knew nothing about his natural father's family, having been adopted. Wife then tells him to go on Ancestry as a friend is always saying how good it is!
Cut to commercial break and first ad is for Ancestry DNA.
Second half and  Dr Karl is thrilled to find that someone has put a multi generational tree of Karl's natural family online. Wife then says her friend just happened to have a spare Ancestry DNA kit that Karl can have!

Kudos to Ancestry, for the price of a short ad on daytime TV, they've managed to get 5+ minutes of publicity.

Confession time - another Neighbours watcher here!

I too was appalled by the Ancestry "advert" in the script, and the way it was shown that within half an hour Karl had a whole family tree - without doing one little bit of research or checking.

Bet he only needs to repeat his sample if they need more story time. I saw it and it amused me. Thinking wonder if tree is accurate etc. Will he find his bio father? Another brother or sister!

Me too- I don't think Susan actually told Karl to go onto Ancestry as a website,but just to check out his Ancestry. She said someone at the learning centre did classes on it.

Next minute she seemed to be coming back with something in a box for him to write his tree up on?

He did find his biological father a few years back,didn't he have alzheimers or something?

Or was that his adopted dad?

if he did was it checked out. Bet he gets replies from the messages he sends or they turn up on his doorstep or does he have another kid. Bet people want to know how many cms etc.

I love Neighbours. I watched it when Max Ramsay was the King of Ramsay Street and the Scott and Charlene era. Neighbours, Corrie and Emmerdale are my 3 fave soaps.

I missed last nights interesting episode as in true fashion, guests came round so I will have to watch on catch up to see the Karl Ancestry episode.

Ah yes so it was,thanks Liz 

Susan seemed to be referring to a friend who ran Genealogy classes at the local hall.
