You'll find them marrying the wealthiest families in Ireland!

It is only a hunch that Thomas is one of them!

I have been studying these Percivals of Leitrim and Longford for 25 years.   It is so difficult to follow all the links on roots chat isn't it.  I am sure we are not related to the Percevals of Sligo though they kindly had my cousin and me to lunch back in 2002.  I have had my DNA done and so has Patrick Perceval, both through Ancestry.com  There doesn't appear to be a connection.I have traced the variuos children of John P and Anne Rosemond.  Arthur ended up in NSW. Alexander married Dunbar,Elizabeth married a McCormack,William I can't trace.....may have gone to US,Thomas married an Irwin,Henry married a cousin Frances and later Selina Stephenson in Dublin.  They are all accounted for.
Going backwards we have to do some research into Alexander and John who were both constables.  I don't no where to turn next to find out where they came from
Any ideas?
BTW I was the one who visited some relatives in Ireland.  Kathleen and Ivy in Mohill.   They are both gone now.  They knew much about the family but the only thing they could tell me about their grand father John was that he was some sort of sheriff in the district who could take away people's homes and was therefore not liked a lot. I suppose he was a constable too and a farmer.  Kathleen and Ivy had a brother Alexander who was a doctor.  I suspect he might be dead too.

hi 'Linny', thanks for the info. I can't remember if you mentioned which 'line' you are from. I am on ancestry too, so perhaps if you have a different user name on the DNA profiles, we may by some stretch of the imagination - be matched. (I am the percival - irwin) there's over 400 4th cousins on there for me! I was just disappointed to learn I was only about 12% Irish, despite Irish parents and a Scottish paternal grandmother. Perhaps the British library here in london, might have some details on the sheriffs/ constables of that time. I had membership about 20 years ago, so I can try again.
