St Andrew's Holborn - PR look up 1600-1630
« on: Friday 24 August 18 18:11 BST (UK) »
Hi I

Is anyone here able to check the parish registers of St Andrew, Holborn for a christening and possible burial for me?

I am trying to confirm the christening of Ann Warde who was married to Edward Watson there in 1643.

According to the "London and Surrey Marriage Allegations" Ann was "age 30" and "of St Andrew Holborn". Edward himself was from Faversham in Kent.

If Ann was 30 then she would have been born about 1613, however the only christening I can find in the parish of St Andew's Holborn is the following:

Ann Warde - 2 March 1616 - daughter of Edward and Ellen.

There is a burial on FamilySearch for an Ann Warde daughter  of Edward in 1623 but no parish is given. The only details are as follows:

Ann Ward
Burial Date: 7 August 1623
Burial Place: England
Father: Edward Warde

Can anyone check the parish registers of St Andrew's Holborn for this date to see if this burial took place there?

Is anyone check the PRs for any other possible christenings of Ann Warde there between about 1610 and 1615?

Thanks for any ideas and help.

Matt

Hello
I had a look at the christening and it does say that with the additional info of his profession taylor and  of their address which I have trouble reading. It looks like
out of Nox? Rents in goo/god lane

I looked for that burial but no sign.It wasn't St Andrews Holborn because I checked that manually  but it didn't come up on FindMyPast or Ancestry index .

For London 1610 -1615 baptisms
Ann Ward 6.5.1610 at Whitecahpel d of William
Ann Warde 7.6.1612 d of George at All Hallows Tottenham Harringay

That seems to be it .

There are two more possible siblings in Holborn
Elizabeth 7.4.1721 and Robert 30 Mar 1623 of William Wright's house in Shoe Lane a taylor but father is Edmund instead of Edward.

Hi

Thanks for that. So which Ann do you think is likely to be mine? Could it be the Ann born to Edmund/Edward in Holborn in 1616 or could it be one of the other two you mentioned? Whitechapel is 2 miles from Holborn and Tottenham is about 6 miles away so both are close.

Given that Ann and Edward married in Holborn the christening in Holborn would seem more likely.

Are you able to take a look at the marriage entry on the registers to see if that gives any more details?

Many Thanks

Matt

Hello
I think it is the Holborn one ,daughter of Edward/Edmund and Elllen.
I can see the marriage allegation which doesn't give any more details but can't find the marriage entry at St Andrews Holborn.
Sorry

I’ve just taken a look at the marriage allegation.  It looks to me as though it says “widdow” after London. What do you think?

If that’s the case, she probably isn’t a Ward at all.

I think it also says that they intend to marry in St. Mary Magdelan, Old Fish Street

Added -  Also mentions that Edward is a widower

I agree. They were both widowed, he about 40 years of age, she about 30.

The parish register for St Mary Magdalen, Old Fish Street, isn't online for that date (Feb 1643/44).
