Baptisms In Steppingley Lookup.

Hi all,

I am helping a friend with their family research & need a couple of Baptisms in Steppingley looked up if possible please!

Thomas Gibbs to father Richard Gibbs on 13th July 1699.

Mary Chapman c1710.

I haven't been able to find any parish records online for Steppingley at all, neither do they appear in the parish register book series by F G Emmison as far as I can tell.

Any & all assistance will be gratefully received.

Slight discrepancy in the date for Thomas Gibbs and no mother's name recorded but about the same time a number of baptisms for children of Rich & Mary took place.

30 Jul 1699 - Thos Gibbs; son of Rich; labr
22 Jun 1701 - Jn Gibbs; son of Rich; labr; born 26 May 1701
26 Mar 1703 - Mary Gibbes; dau of Rich; born 01 May 1702
25 Dec 1706 - Rich Gibbes; son of Rich & Mary; labr
26 Feb 1709 - Ann Gibbes; dau of Rich & Mary; Father is a yeoman
01 Jan 1711 - Eliz Gibbes; dau of Rich & Mary; husbandman
23 Aug 1713 - Wm Gibbes; son of Rich & Mary; husbmn
23 Jan 1717 - Sarah Gibbes; dau of Rich & Mary; Father is a yeoman


As for Mary Chapman there's no baptism of that name in Steppingley around that date. There were a number of baptisms for children of Francis & Sarah, from 1691 to 1733, but this appears to be 2 couples as there's a reference in the later baptisms to 'father is jnr.'. None of the children are named Mary.

Looking through the surname index there were a few baptisms of Mary Chapman around 1710.
- 1706 Potton (24 Feb dau of Edw & Mary; labr)
- 1708 Haynes
- 1710 Cople
- 1714 Potton (4 Apr dau of Edw & Cath)
- 1716 Turvey
