(I have found a few mentions of Samuel in Trove - none of them good)  :)

A couple of online trees are suggesting that Elizabeth was born in 1871 but no further details or sources given. Presumably this is a calculation from age given as 89 when she died in 1960.

That would make her the twin of Agnes Maude, whose birth I posted previously.

Elizabeth isn’t Gertrude, is she?

An interesting thought Jamjar.

"Elizabeth" is "Elizabeth Hattie" at the births of her three sons and at her death.

Anything is possible but I think the middle name "Hattie" is an unusual choice if it is an alias.  :-\

I will look into Agnes and Gertrude. Thanks for the suggestion.  :)

It seems that Gertrude married Ernest Helmore in 1893 and died in 1915 in the Wallsend district.

.... and Agnes died in 1965 Wallsend as per your reply #5 Jamjar. Unmarried it seems .... :-\

Yes, I’d seen the marriage notice, but wasn’t sure as Gertrude married in Adelaide, SA and the father is BART. http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article13905484

However, as per death registration it does appear to be the correct Gertrude.

In the notice she is listed as the SECOND daughter of Bart. That means she was born after Elizabeth, giving a death year for Elizabeth pre 1868.

Bart!? What?

It does seem to be the correct Gertrude and the correct marriage though.

In 1882 Samuel was living in Maryborough (when he was arrested for appropriating funds).

I wonder if the shame of his crimes sent Samuel to NSW and perhaps the name Bart or Bert was a contraction of his middle name Barltrop? Or perhaps an error by the newspaper.

An online tree said Samuel died in Brisbane 12 July 1905. He is on the Qld death index as John Barltrop Allbon. (no Samuel) His wife Elizabeth's death in 1901 is registered in NSW. He possibly moved back to Qld after she died.

He is on the 1903 and 1905 electoral rolls as (just) John Barltrope Allbon too. Unless .... there is a Samuel as well as a John with middle name of Barltrop/e.

I will keep digging ....

Do you actually have reference to Samuel in NSW? Maybe his family moved without him.

Have you found them on electoral roles?

SA was a long way for Gertrude to travel alone. A relly maybe: Death 1881 111/451 ALLBON Maria Henry ALLBON (H) Adelaide

The 1901 death for Elizabeth has her as Elizabeth Ann on Trove, aged 73.

That puts her birth at 1828, not 1832, as per your other thread.

Jamjar

The NSW death index has her as Elizabeth J, District newcastle. Father John. No mother named.

Yes, she was born in 1828, in Bedfordshire. (I originally thought she was born in 1832, but discovered that I had the wrong Elizabeth).

So, was it at Elizabeth's home that he died?
