Can Anyone Restore Please who i think is Thomas Mcintosh of Peterhead?
« on: Saturday 25 August 18 14:51 BST (UK) »
I believe this man is my great grandfathers brother Thomas Mcintosh , son of Robert and Isabella  , he died in world war 1 1917 ,my previous post of his parents we might see a connection , I would like some opinions if possible

would be good to see a restored version of this  man , and anybodys opinion of what regiment he might belong to . could guide us to determine if its Thomas ,

Wouldn't you just know it he's not showing his cap badge. However his sporran & badge are that of the Gordon Highlanders so very likely Thomas.

Of knowledge
I
Rely purely on others experience I have no skills in identifying world war 1 or 2 ,

I hope I am providing enjoyment to others sharing these photos Aswell as gaining info that I can help
Build up my family tree that will then be passed down to the next generations

Thomas lost his life at the start of the 3rd. Battle of Ypres during what was known as the Battle of Arras.
The 1/GH were given the job of taking the German advanced positions which consisted of small trenches & shell holes.
There were 3 objectives.
1. The taking of Hook trench.
2. The taking of Long trench.
3. Establishing 5 posts on the slope of the Mound. These were observation/defensive & fortified positions.
The battlefield map used at the time is below.
Here is the larger map. The area of interest is sector "O.2" centre top:
https://maps.nls.uk/view/101464756
This was a 4 day operation which proved succesful but owing to German counter-attacks & intense shelling Thomas was one of 70 men killed during the operation.
