...my head is splitting  :D

Well, yes  :) I am not surprised!

Mary Lawton born illegitimate 1901 to Alice Lawton
Alice 'Lockwood' Lawton born illegitimate 1884 to Elizabeth Ann Lawton
Elizabeth Ann 'Helliwell' Lawton baptised illegitimate to Phebe Lawton

Elizabeth Anne Helliwell Lawton
Baptism Date: 11 Sep 1867
Baptism Place: Dodworth, St John the Baptist, Yorkshire, England

Mother Phebe Lawton a single woman

But luckily! at least they left some clues in the middle names   ;)

There is a George Helliwell, butcher born Silkstone, but whether he's Elizabeth Ann Lawton's father - we may never know.

1871, Higham, Barugh, Barnsley
George    Helliwell    45,    Silkstone, Butcher
Ellen    Helliwell    23, wife, Dodworth
Anne    Helliwell    1, Dau, Dodworth
Joseph    Helliwell    81, Boarder,    Dodworth, Formerly Butcher
Sarah    Helliwell    61, Boarder    Dodworth

Thank you once again.

I used a mixture of freebmd and the familysearch site and ancestry.co.uk. (free weekend)

I have a lot of illegitimacy in my tree. Two of my Gt Grandmothers were illegitimate.
I don't think illegitimacy was that uncommon and especially in Yorkshire for some reason  :o
