Downloading DNA Match info to excel spreadsheets!
« on: Saturday 25 August 18 20:10 BST (UK) »
Hi, im looking for some information, be it written or on youtube etc., about how you manipulate this information,( ie downloaded dna match info.), to make sense of it, and make it easier to compare matches.

I've done it, ive downloaded the raw data, but the result are too non standard, so, for example, the same bit of information, eg,  presumed, 3rd cousin or whatever, is not in the same column for each record, so the results end up as 'mince' ( well that's what I would have called them 40 years ago, but I dont know if people still use that expression!!).

Can anybody help me out??

Describe exactly what you are downloading, and where from. Which website and exactly what sort of DNA data.

thanks Martin,

Today is a special family day for me, so no time today to do as you request, but will do either late tonight, or tomorrow evening after work!

Thanks!

I think you seem to have downloaded a CSV (comma separated variables) file rather than an Excel file.  I had a file like that from  either my Heritage or FTDNA . It does look a bit of a mish-mash because each piece of data is separated by a comma rather than a fixed cell.

To convert to Excel:

To analyse the data, you need to tell us what info you want.
