Nephew on a Census
« on: Sunday 26 August 18 10:43 BST (UK) »
I have on a census from 1861 in London; Frederick Thompson and his brother Joseph.
Listed to Joseph Thompson ( Baker ) & wife Elizabeth as "Nephews"
Their real father also Joseph Thompson (Sheriffs Officer ) is living with their sister and his
second wife also in London.
There canīt be 2 Joseph Thompsonīs as Brothers ? Or is Elizabeth a sister to Joseph
and married another Joseph with the same surname.
All came from Lincolnshire ?
Any suggestions ?
Best Wishes

Have you tried tracking both the elder Joseph's backwards/ forwards which is what I am trying to do.  That way you may find that the 'uncle' has been wrongly named on the census or that he is related in another way

In case it helps Joseph and Frederick's mother's maiden name was Heardson  - from GRO site.

They may not have been Nephews in the strict sense of the word, but a little more distant, perhaps children of cousins rather than actual brothers.

Thankyou..You People are so Kind.
The Trouble also arose as I canīt find either Joseph on the 1871 census.
The older Born 1816 transfered from the Police force to sheriffs officer.
They all could have died of course, except Frederick who moved to Birmingham.
Best Wishes

Mary Ann also has Heardson as her mothers maiden name, but I can't find a marriage that fits.
