POMEROYs of Farway
« on: Sunday 26 August 18 13:06 BST (UK) »
Branching off from the thread on the Pomeroys of Stoke Gabriel, I wonder if anyone is connected to, or interested in, the branch of the family that lived at and around Farway. (Included on this page  https://sites.google.com/site/pomeroytwig/home/honiton-pomeroys of slightlyfoxed's site.)

My youngest Pomeroy ancestor is the Amy who married Robert Cox at Farway in 1769, who appears to be the daughter of William and Anne baptised there in 1747. (The John Pomeroy at her wedding was a witness, not necessarily her father.)

There are at least three families with a William as the father baptising children in the area around that time but the available records only give two Williams born a generation earlier.

William son of William and Hannah, Gittisham, 1705
William son of John and Katherine, Farway, 1716

Mr William Pomeroy of Gittisham & Mrs Mary Pearce otp m. Honiton 1732
Wiliam Pomeroy & Anne Cload m. Ofwell 1745
William Pomeroy & Christian Cox both of Farwell m. Combe Raleigh 1753

William and Mary appear to have baptised children at Honiton in 1733, 1743 and 1749 (plus possibly Will son of Will buried in 1741).

William and Anne baptised children at Farway in 1747, 1749, 1751 and Jun 1754 (Nicholas).

William and Christian had children at Farway in March 1754,  May 1755 (Nicholas), 1757, 1759, 1761, 1763. (There is a burial record for a Nicholas, Jun 1755.)

Unless there is another unrecorded William the most likely explanation seems to me to be that the 1705 William married twice, to Mary and Christian and that the 1716 William married Anne, but various public trees have other combinations. Does anyone have any more info?
