I'm looking at deaths (1917) where the RD name is "Service Returns". Can anyone shed any light to what the ref relates eg 126/AF 152, 116/AF 83, etc? Thank you.

Was it a death during WW1?  Was the person serving in the Armed Forces?

Yes. He died on 17/11/1917 in the battle of Passchendaele.

The first number is the number of the volume. Then comes AF which I have always assumed meant Armed Forces. The last number is the page on which the record is listed.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.
