Greetings all.

Sorry I've taken so long to reply but I live in NZ and have just got out of bed.

Mary GRANT was born in Scotland in Inverey, Aberdeenshire on the 12th June 1842. Her parents were John Grant and Jane (nee GRANT). Her parents were not named on her death record which I have. There is a monument inscription for her in the Braemar KIrkyard on her sister Isabella's grave which pointed me in the direction of her death in Chicago.

Mary must have left Scotland between 1861 and 1871.

She had nine siblings of which five 'disappeared' from records.

James b. 1846, aft 1872
John b. 1847, aft 1861
Jane b. 1850, aft 1861
Alexander b. 1854, aft 1871
Elizabeth Ann, b. 1857, aft 1891

So when I saw an Alexander O Grant as an executor I got a bit excited.

Mary's father, John seems to have had just one sibling, James and he and his family emigrated to New Zealand in 1863. James is my ancestor but it's proving very difficult to track down any further information about my family and at the moment I can't move back further than John and James' parents. Very frustrating!

Just checking the three entries related to Mary's death it does look more like an O than a P for his second name.

I should add that her parents did not leave Scotland.

I very much appreciate all your efforts  ;D

I agree that Alexander P is not her brother.

If she had family also living in Chicago you would think they would have been mentioned in the obit/death noticed I previously posted. Also the funeral would have been from that family members residence and not the proprietor of the Hayes Hotel.

Have you checked Scotlands people for possible deaths and marriages of those siblings ?
