Alabama marriage records
« on: Monday 27 August 18 17:25 BST (UK) »
I would like to know the names of the parents of George W Evans, who married Beatrice Riach Grigor on 2 September 1882 in Jefferson County, Alabama, and John W Martin, who married Beatrice Riach Grigor or Evans on 24 October 1899 in Birmingham, Jefferson County.

Does anyone have experience of accessing marriage records in Jefferson County, and do they give the names of the couple's parents? If so where should I look for them?

George was born in Wales about 1846. He and Beatrice had four children, but George must have died between 1895, when his youngest child was conceived, and 1899, when Beatrice married John W Martin.

John was born in Indiana about 1854.

I have found John and Beatrice and all four children in the 1900 census in Ensley City, Jefferson County.

I also have full information about Beatrice's own family.

Nor for John and Beatrice

You might have to work each man backward through the records to find his birth family.

Thank you. FS is where I found the dates of the marriages, but no images were available at that time.

I have looked at the England and Wales births index, and there are literally dozens of George Evans born around that time. Some of them do have a middle name beginning with 'W', but none of the George W* Evans was born in Wales. So I have no way of homing in on the right one.

I admit to not having looked in earlier records yet for John W Martin, as it is quite a common name and it would be even harder to be sure which is the right one.

I think you have a clue from son Archie he died 14 November 1967 as Archie Reese Evans.
This may have been George's father Christian name or his mothers maiden name

Yeah, I remembered what surnames you were working with after I posted the suggestion. :)

Thank you. That is certainly worth looking into. I didn't have dates of death for any of the family.

Ref: ancestry
Avondale Episcopal Church Birmingham AL.
Beatrice Evans born 10 March 1885 baptized 27 April 1910

Her birth year is out by 2 years as in 1900 census she was 17 and born March 1883.

Archibald according to his WWI sign up papers was born 8 November 1890.
His obituary ran in the Birmingham Newspaper 16 November 1967 it could provide clues to his brother and sisters for example married names. ancestry transfers you to the website costs $5.00 to look at it.

possible, need to verify

George T Evans died 12 Setember 1962

Beatrice if she a married Hale/Hall died 17 July 1971

Father George W Evans was a machinist he may have worked for the Steel mill its now an artist area.  The Jefferson County archives may have work records etc.
