marriage
« on: Wednesday 29 August 18 13:31 BST (UK) »

  Hi all,
just wondering what church my x 3 great grandparents married in.
I have had a look at Appin where they married in1836 and there appears to be two churches. I am wondering if one of the churches is newer if any one would hazard a guess.

just says
john clerk
Catherine McDonald   24 jan 1836 Lismore Argyll Scotland. I am also wondering what religion the family followed as john was a slate quarrier,?

                              bestest wishes

                                   sue  ???  :o

The record on Scotlands People shows JOHN CLERK married
CATHRINE MCDONALD 24/01/1836 Duror*. You can download the OPR for a small fee.

Unless this couple were VERY wealthy, the custom was to be married in the bride's home, quite often on a Saturday evening. Only the rich were married in the church itself.

There's a Scottish Episcopal church in Appin, too early for the Free Church plus the Parish Church. The parish formerly included Glencoe & Ballachulish.
