I think that I have found William at last thanks to all your help. My searches have found a match with DOB 27/01/1893. Living in Empire Street,West Derby. He has 2 sisters Lucy and Annie and a brother John. He was a typewriter mechanic before the war. If so he would have been 24 when he died.

I looked at that the other day. He had a brother John who was in the Labour Corps, same address.
The problem is that however attractive it may look you can't make the connection from William Jnr. to William Snr. & Ellen.
Ancestry has made the assumption that as he was in the Liverpool Scottish he must be from there but he could have been from anywhere.

On dear thought the mystery was solved. Back to the drawing board then. Thought it might have been too easy

Hi -
I've found a newspaper report and as I'm not sure about copyright I'll just add a relevant quote from the article.....

Liverpool Echo September 1917
'Private William Currie, Cameron Highlanders, son of Mr. William Currie of 76 Empire Street West Derby Liverpool, is reported to have been killed on August 20th. Private Currie, who was 24 years of age, joined the KLR in February, was drafted abroad and on arrival was transferred to the Cameron Highlanders. He was in the typewriter trade and an expert mechanic'.

I think this might connect to the William Currie you found. There's also a photo with the report. I've sent you a personal message.

Hope this helps to add to William's story

Regards

Neptune

Wow thank you Neptune  I had a gut feeling when I first found typewriter mechanic last year that it was him. So glad he now has recognition
Thank you so much for all your assistance in this mission
