Hi all

Sorry for late reply!

John seems to have dropped the 'Gott' around 1901, as the only two children not registered as 'Gott' where his two youngest, Elizabeth, born 1901 and John, born in 1905; they were both Dixon.

Although his wife died as 'Gott' John died as John Dixon - odd isn't it?

Thanks for everyone's interest!!

Sue

Purely speculation, but perhaps he disowned his father for some reason and decided he no longer wanted to use his name.

A Thomas Gott, painter of Windermere seems to have appeared before the courts several times in the 1860/70s.
