John Ellis 1791 - 1860
« on: Sunday 02 September 18 08:36 BST (UK) »
Good Morning everyone,
I am trying to find out who John Ellis's father was as I am wondering if he fits onto my family tree. I think he may be my 4x great granddad's younger brother.
I am looking for a marriage between a John Ellis (b15 Oct 1791 c6 Nov 1791 Rothwell Holy Trinity) I believe he married a lady named Christiana but I don't know her surname (information taken from the 1841 census) they had at least 7 children :Joseph 1821,William 1824,John 1827, Ben Naylor 1829, Samuel 1831,Ann 1834,David 1837. All of the children were christened at Rothwell Holy Trinity.
I'm really hoping someone can help, thank you Carrie xx

New GRO index
There were two David Ellis' registered in Leeds in 1837, one has mothers maiden name of Naylor (September Quarter), the other Hargreave (December Quarter).

I think the Naylor maiden name is correct as David son of John and Christina was born 15 August 1837 bap 24 September 1837.

Christiana Naylor married William Bentley 15 April 1816 at Rothwell

Cressy Bentley married John Ellis 13 January 1820 at Rothwell.

Cressy Naylor was the daughter of William and Mary Naylor born 5 January 1795 bap 15 February 1795 at Rothwell.

ADDED looked at the image of the marriage it could be 30th January 1820, witnesses are Richard B?? and John Gibson.
The previous entry is definitely the 13th there is an "n" clearly written

Christiana and William Bentley also has a son Charles Bentley bap 14 June 1818 at Rothwell.

That explains the Charles Bentley age 23 born 1818 living with John Ellis and Christiana in 1841, he was her son from her first marriage.
