Help with Latin Probate Admin Record
« on: Sunday 02 September 18 19:02 BST (UK) »
Could anyone help with this Latin admin record dated 1637.  The testator is Thomas Humphrys of Coldwaltham in Sussex. and i'm looking to see if any family names are mentioned.  His wife was Katherine, but I can't seem to see anything familiar at all.  Thanks in advance.

Karen

Apart from Thomas the only name I see is Gulielmo (William) Nevill in line 2.

Sorry!

Apart from Thomas the only name I see is Gulielmo (William) Nevill in line 2.

William Nevill is the church official (Doctor of Laws, Vicar, etc.) who confirmed the grant of administration, after the inventory and accounts for the estate had been completed, submitted and agreed.

The person to whom administration was granted is named at the beginning of line 6, and I think it's Georgiu(m) Greene (George Greene). The value of the estate appears to be 58 shillings 1 penny (5 lines up from the bottom).

As far as I can tell, all the rest is standard legal verbiage. It's quite hard to read, and heavily abbreviated, but I don't think anyone else is mentioned.

Hi Bookbox,  Thanks for looking at the record and finding a name for me and the value of his estate.  Bit more research for me to do and find out who George Greene may be.

Much appreciated, regards.
