Stranded in Belgium
« on: Monday 03 September 18 19:07 BST (UK) »
Can any of you help me out of a hole!?

Trying to find more records on Maria L(?ouise) Raes.
Born 1922 (in Belgium?)
Married 1945 to Percy H. Toase in Brussels (military)
Died in 2013 in England

That's all I have!!! Have searched a few places but no luck, I don't have many Belgian records.

Hi there,

If the informant at her death in 2013 knew it, her birthplace may be on her death certificate.

Do you have a copy of the 1945 marriage? You can find the index reference (e.g. at https://www.findmypast.co.uk ) and order a copy from the GRO. This may give you her father's name and some other useful information.

 - there are some old city directories here, looks like there were a number of Raes families in Brussels around this time.

I think you would have to determine where she was born in Belgium and write to that location for a copy of her birth.
