Francis Bready Haydock
« on: Monday 03 September 18 20:33 BST (UK) »
Hi, I have hit a wall (it seems to happen often! :( )
I believe Francis Bready (possibly Brady) Ha(e)yDock is my GG grandfather.
I have his marriage to Harriet Mills in 1849.

I am concerned I have a red herring. In 1861 I have him a colour sargeant Hampshire vessels Place of birth Salmesbury lancs 1827.. but no use of middle name so not 100% sure its him.

1n 1861 his wife Harriet is shown as head of house in Stonehouse Devon. I am pretty sure she is my GG grandmother but how come her mother in law on 1861 census is shown as Mary Brady, surely she should be Haydock.. so am I on the wrong track? Brady fits with the children keeping the name?
I have the stone house connection . My G g'mother Jessie Friend was born in Stonehouse 1851 as was her husband my G G'father who was Francis Brady Heydock b1850. I may have to go to Devon Looks ups, but i hoped to establish whether Francis Bready Haycock my GG G'father.. TIA.

Thanks, that was my post. It gave me some info but none of this.  Most of that seems to be for his son also Francis Brady Heydock which is what makes everything so confusing!

I need establish place of birth being Lancaster as on 1861 Census if that is him. I am really interested in Mary Brady who may be his mother, but can establish her as mother without a place of birth of Francis?

Mother-in-law was sometimes used for stepmother.

Thats interesting... but doesnt account for how Bready/Brady was part of her husbands name?

Who is Francis Brady Haydocks (bn 1850) father on his birth cert?  I see his mmn was Mills.

  Or on his marriage cert?

Looks as if either:

1) Mary Brady had a previous marriage to a Haydock, had son Francis, and he took stepfathers name as a middle name
2) Mary Brady had a previous relationship with a Haydock, and Francis took his natural fathers name added on
3) (most likely I think)  Mary Brady was nee Haydock and had Francis by Mr Brady, he was then given his fathers name as a Middle name. Mary then either married Mr Brady later or just uses his surname.
4) All sorts of scenarios I havent thought of!!

Now I am more confused than ever!! Yes i agree lots of possible scenarios. I was hoping to establish his birth in Lancashire by one of you who work magic in finding things I cant...hoping parents would both be mentioned. Did also wonder if once we have Irish blood in the mix there may be cathoic records?
