Royal Engineers? Date please

This is a section of a bigger picture with the caption "Royal Engineers outside pub". I would like to know when it was taken. WW1 or earlier?

The shape of the caps and style of uniform puts them in 1920s or 30s, before battledress came in. The civilians’ outfits may be in the earlier part of that period.

It's 1914 or thereabouts. They've still got the metal stiffening rings in their caps. They were usually removed thereafter to avoid reflections in sunlight.

Agree pre war. The woman is dressed in a style typical of the late Edwardian Era. Also the lanyard was moved to the right shoulder in the 20's.

Thank you, all. I wondered if it was pre-war, as the woman is dressed just like my gr grandmother, who died in 1909. Do you agree with the caption, that they are Royal Engineers (or could be, I know it is not very clear)?

You couldn't rule out RE but you'd have to supply a better image of the badge to say for sure.
