Win 10, Word, laptop problem
« on: Tuesday 04 September 18 16:19 BST (UK) »
Having worked fine this morning when I transferred some photos from a DVD into word documents, the system has now gone funny on me.  Where I usually find a column of named folders and files, there are now only pictures of folders, with no names against them.  Using the open and browse commands leads nowhere.
Do I need a system restore, and if how do I find it please?
Plain language only please!

Can you follow what is here?

then select Restore Defaults.   See if that fixes problem.

I think you have accidentally changed the view of your files from 'Detail' , which would show the names of the files to medium-sized or large icons. If you click on View on the menu bar at the top, you will get an option to change it to one of several different formats. Experiment with each of them until you achieve your original format.

I was thinking same until I read  there are now only pictures of folders, with no names against them.  'My Documents' or 'My Pictures' should be beside Folder 'Picture'   (Icon)

I am a little further on, as I can now read the file name in the box near the foot of the screen, but the computer gives me a message when I try to open any Word file:
"There is not enough memory or disk space to complete the operation".
Thanks for your various suggestions.
Email & Firefox are unaffected, by the way.

Maybe there is not enough memory or disk space to complete the operation?

By some means or other my Word is back to where it should be.  I checked Memory, which shut me down for some time while wheels turned, but after restarting I found things back to normal.
My thanks for your interest and guidance, but I don't know if it was luck or your help this time.

There are a few reasons why that can happen so I'd only be guessing Why.

The main thing is you didn't panic and start doing things....  like System Restore!

There is a repair option that I run maybe 2 or 3 times a year just to check everything and see the Report.

That is what I would have advised next.  That would have included Memory   ;D

Glad problem is sorted!!
