Can anyone date the picture and identify uniform?

Thank you that date range fits well with what we've been told - but family stories passed through two or three people often get distorted.

The soldier died in 1917 and at the time was serving with DLI. His service record hasn't survived, but there is a mention on his CWGC record that he was formerly in the Hussars, but doesn't say which regiment.
In 1911 he was 18 and a butcher's porter. So he could have joined the Hussar's between then and 1914, then been transferred to DLI later,  possibly when war broke out. If the uniform is some type of Hussars uniform he would be between 18 and 21 in the photo.

I have a photo of my grandfather with his parents which was taken when he was no more than 28, he also had a moustache and he looks as if he's at least 40.

He is a bugler and that is not a Hussar uniform.

Thank you. Would army musicians wear a different type of uniform when they were performing from their normal army uniform?

I noticed his belt and cap badge appear to be the same as worn by the boy's,who is the soldier in question?
I have an interest in all thing's DLI

He was Thomas William Livermore. Until last week we had the bugle but have just donated it to the museum in the town where was born for their WW1 display.

Hi Lizzie I have the volume "soldier's died in the Great War" covering the DLI,this gives place of
enlistment and usually place of residence,date of death etc,in a lot of instances also previous
regiment when I can find it I will see what info I can dig up for you.The 10th DLI were a Kitchener's
army battalion raised in early 1915 due to the huge flow of recruit's after war was declared originally
99% of the men were from the North East but as the war progressed the rank's were filled with
replacement's which may be where Thomas comes in,he attested on 14/8/1914 according to a note on the CWGC records.He is remembered in Durham Cathedral in the book of Remembrance.

He is commemorated on two war memorials, Bishops Stortford where he was born and Little Hallingbury where he was living before war broke out.
