Florence Beryl EBBOTT/EBBITT born c 1864 Dublin, Ireland
« on: Thursday 06 September 18 09:20 BST (UK) »
I am writing a short bio on Florence Ebbott/Ebbitt who signed the NZ 1893 Women's Suffrage Petition.  I am seeking information on her parents, birth/baptism details and migration to NZ c 1879 only.

I have posted a request on the New Zealand Board and the following is the link to this request.

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=799787.0

Grateful if anybody is able to assist with information.

In relation to the 'Rutledge' name (Florence Beryl's daughter's middle name mentioned at replies #2 & #10 of the other / New Zealand topic), just a maybe, but a couple called Thomas Ebbitt and Elizabeth Rutledge were having children in Dublin from the start of civil registration of births to the early 1870s, eg:

Agnes:

Wilhemina Emily:

Louisa Matilda:

Georgina:

FamilySearch has a civil marriage registration for a marriage that took place on 11 October 1850, Waterford Co. Waterford, between a 24 year old Thomas Ebbett (father Joseph) and a 22 year old Elizabeth Rutledge (father John), if the same folk, then plenty of time between 1850 and 1864 to have had several other children.

Edited to add: This looks like Georgina and her mother in 1901 (note the son called 'Routledge'):

In relation to the mention of George Rutledge Ebbett at reply #10 of the New Zealand topic, note the following death notice (specifically the last sentence) from the Dublin Weekly Nation of 10 March 1883:

Ebbitt - March 5, at his residence, 11 Upper Oriel-street, after a very tedious illness, to the inexpressible grief of his sorrowing wife, George Rutledge Ebbitt.  New Zealand papers please copy.

No clues in the death notice:

For example, it would appear they also had a daughter Sarah who married in 1874:

And a son called Rutledge who got married in 1879:

Thanks Hallmark and gaffy for your postings with links to further information which is helpful.

I have also found a Mary Ebbitt, 17 years and Elizth Ebbitt 18 years, both GI Servant from Dublin who sailed on the ship "Hereford" from London on 31 October 1877 and arrived in Lyttelton, NZ on 19 January 1878 (info from FamilySearch).

Not sure if any connection though!

The civil marriage registration for a marriage that took place on 11 October 1850, Waterford Co. Waterford means that they weren't RC.....

Don't know what Religion Florence was.

Thanks Hallmark.
I went back and had another look at Florence's d/c.  The religion of the Minister who performed the funeral service was Chruch of England.
