I'm trying to confirm I have the right death for my 2g grandfather, George Coulson. He was baptised in Haughton le Skerne, Durham on 25 December 1818, the son of Thomas Coulson and Jane Wake.
In the various censuses he is listed as:
1841 St Saviour Southwark, George Coulson, 20, head, flax dresser, not born in county
1851 St Saviour Southwark, George Coulson, 32, head, flax dresser, born Durham
1861 South Petherton Somerset, George Coulson, 42, head, flax dresser, born Haughton le Skerne
1871 Stockton Durham, George Coulson, 50, head, labourer, born Haughton le Skerne, Durham
1881 Stockton Durham, George Coulson, 60, father-in-law, hairdresser flax, born Haughton le Skerne
His wife, Elizabeth, died in 1889 in Stockton. The best fit I could find for him in later censuses is:
1891 Elswick Northumberland, George Coulson, boarder, 70, labourer fitting shop, born Haughton
1901 Elswick Northumberland, George Coulson 82, widower, boarder, storeskeeper, born Darlington Durham
This George Coulson's DC says:
11 Feb 1902 at 24 Newcombe St Newcastle
George Coulson, male, 82, formerly a labourer Elswick worker
Cause of death Bronchitis, exhaustion as certified by J. D. Love MB
Informant Jean Walker, present at death, 24 Newcombe St Newcastle
Registered 12 Feb 1902 William S? Findley, Registrar
I found a probate for him and have ordered a copy:
George Coulson died 11 February 1902 of 24 Newcombe St Newcastle Upon Tyne Probate Newcastle upon Tyne on 15 March to William Creasor market inspector. Effects 350/16/6
Two things puzzle me - why was he boarding in Newcastle when his daughter and family were still living in Stockton. And who was William Creasor?
Feedback most welcome :-)
