Some of the MRA gunners lost on this ship [NOVA SCOTIA] were from 1/3/4 Maritime Regiments. Although 1 Maritime looked after the Clyde the gunners could find themselves on any ship so we have to bear that in mind.

Part two.
1808120 Gunner William Mulvey – part two
30 May 1945 posted to 35 Signals Training Regiment Royal Artillery Rhyll rank Bombardier
14 November 1945 posted to 227 Driver Training Regiment Royal Artillery UK, location not found
4 February 1946 posted to 3 Reserve Regiment Royal Artillery UK, location not found
(It may be that during this period, he was, as an experienced NCO, playing his part in training others)
9 May 1946 Leaves for the Middle East in a draft coded RAMPP
16 May 1946 Arrived Middle East (Egypt), waits in Royal Artillery Wing at General Base Depot for posting.
20 Jun 1946 Posted to 1st Field Regiment Royal Artillery in Greece exact location not known.
26 August 1946 Leaves 1st Field Regiment on way home for discharge
30 August 1946 Leave Middle East theatre.
5 September 1946 Released from the Army on leave pending discharge.
3 Dec 1946 Discharged to Class Z Reserve.

Your father clearly had a varied and interesting career.  His four campaign Stars, Arctic, Atlantic, Italy and Africa show service in the northern seas and in the Mediterranean.  My suggestion, pending you hopefully discovering about his specific vessels, is rather than me copying out chunks of the history of the MRA, that you trawl the net for references to the Maritime Regiment RA and to DEMS, there is an awful lot to be found, including some here on Rootschat.

He has the Arctic Star, I listed it above and it is on his record.

Please don't be disappointed if the answer is a lemon.  I have already looked there and there is no record in his name.

You are absolutely right, apologies - Specsavers calls!

Whether he was entitled to the Arctic Star also would depend on whether he qualified and that can only be known when/if we know what vessels he served on and where.

I am almost certain that the information you have been given from Glasgow is incorrect - there will be no Maritime Card held at the National Archives.

So it is looking like you will have to find a ship as per my earlier posting which will be no easy task. I have been involved recently assisting enquirers with FOI requests to help establish the seagoing ships of some RN personnel and in some cases we are not able to gain any further information from those that hold said records. I am almost certain this would be the same outcome for the Maritime Regiment D.E.M.S. gunners whose cards have not survived. However, if the National Archives come back with positive news I will be delighted for you.
