In 1901 and 1911 Wales  Emma Stokes and Rhoda Stokes are sisters.
Can any one help with Emma.

Edward Stokes un  41

Marriages Mar 1863   John Stokes /   Mary Ann Hughes    W. Derby
Birth Rhoda Stokes    mm  HUGHES    1863  D Quarter in WEST DERBY AND TOXTETH PARK

Father John died 1874  and Rhoda and Emma live with uncles.
Mary Ann moves away and dies  aged 78 in Frodsham in 1898, again I can`t find her after 1871.

So if Emma was born  about 1857 how does she fit in. Was Mary Ann Hughes a widow, I can`t find her with Emma in 1861,

1861 census Toxteth Park,Mill Street, have you eliminated this family

Emma Stokes aged 3 born Liverpool
John Stokes aged 1 born Liverpool
her marriage record gives her address as Mill STREET

I did spot this one, but at time  wasn`t sure,  it does seem to match very well. It`s 288 Mill Street, there are 5 households there.
John`s father was John and a bricklayer, he died in Liverpool in 1854 aged 69

In 1851 in Liverpool John was a provision dealer.
In 1861 when John was in Wrexham with his mother he was a retired grocer, and in 1871 with Mary he had no occupation.
Mill Street  a big clue, so it could be that the children were illegit, and Mary is fibbing a bit .
I can`t find the son John in 1871, perhaps he died.

Thanks a lot for this.

Emma  died 1929 and Rhoda who  died in 1940 left effects of  £33485,  both never married.

I had seen that, but it didn`t "click" ,  well done.
Is this an updated site, http://www.toxtethparkcemetery.co.uk/dbase/toxsearch.htm

I have this home page, but clicking on the consecrated / un consecrated  just gives me invalid page.

I am using the first link you posted the same one I have used for years,
just did the general surname search, tried Hughes and Stokes to be on the safe side then checked address, the other John I had found was much older on ancestry and had died in the work house
