Goulburn NSW marriage lookup 7 Oct 1874
« on: Sunday 09 September 18 01:06 BST (UK) »
Hi rootschatters,
I am researching a DNA match, and trying to identify the parents of Henry WILSON who married Rebecca Jane JACKSON 7 October 1874 at Goulburn. His arrival in Australia with wife Grace in 1853 has parents William & Jane deceased, but I am not convinced, and I'm hoping that his second marriage might have more details.
Thanks,
Sharon

Lots of info on Ancestry public trees but I'm not sure what you already have, nor, of course as to the accuracy of the information, although there's some good documentation on the one I looked at.

Henry himself would have given the information on the NSW immigration record which gives his parents (as you have said) as William and Jane, both deceased so I am intrigued as to why you are not convinced.  Of course it's possible that there was a mix-up with the names etc.

He was very young at his first marriage.  You may be able to find some documentation of the first marriage on the R'chat Yorkshire Board.  I couldn't find an image on Ancestry or FindMyPast or FreeReg although the transcriptions are there.

Hi there,

Do you have copy of the 1874 marriage, (#2448) registered Goulburn district?  If it has those elusive blanks for his parents details, can you please advise the denomination/clergy who conducted the ceremony, as from that information it should be possible to seek out the original parish register which should show ALL the information given by the bride and the groom when seeking to be married.

See http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=546609.0

There seems to be a very long delay between when he died in 1887 and when duty was paid in 1927 on the Deceased Estate.

So far I have identified two William Wilsons who married a Jane in the Skipton area:
1) William Wilson of Grassington age 22 = Jane Ibbotson of Threshfield age 21 at Linton by License 12 Sep 1812 (they have a son Henry in 1823)
See https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Wilson-21011
2) William Wilson = Jane Binns @ Kildwick 6 Sep 1819
Both these couples are in the 41 and 51 censuses.
I am not seeing a baptism for Henry atm, or any baptisms to William & Jane in that time period.
Henry states parents dead in 1853.

As mentioned - quite young to be married (she 18 and he 16?) and "with consent of parents" was crossed out...

My hunch would be that he was the issue of a sibling and brought up by William & Jane...?
And no, I don't have the 1874 certificate, just the newspaper report saying it was the Dean of Goulburn that married them.

thanks for all the help,
cheers,
Sharon

It was Henry Wilson who lived at Moombie, when he died at his residence in Petersham Rd, Marrickville, late of Moombie. I don't think you have the same man.
