Odd things discovered during your research
« on: Monday 10 September 18 15:03 BST (UK) »
I just had to tell somebody this. Over the weekend, we were researching my partner's great grandfather and discovered that he came from the wonderfully named town of Rabbit Hash, Boone County, Kentucky. We got a bit sidetracked into researching this wonderful town, and discovered that it has the oldest general store in the United States, dating from 1831, managed to survive the Ohio river rising 70 feet, and the last 3 mayors of this two and a half acre town were all dogs.

I'd love to hear about any odd discoveries you have made during your research.

"the oldest general store in the United States, dating from 1831"

Either the photos of the store don't do it justice, or it's a bit like the hatchet that my husband's family possessed which had originally belonged to Jefferson Davis  -  it was the original hatchet but the blade had been replaced once and the handle twice.

While researching a branch of mine I discovered they were (a bit like the Pharaohs) keen tomb builders.
One had been renovated with pictures & there they were the bones of my dead ancestors.
