Margaret Wilson of Airdrie
« on: Monday 10 September 18 17:31 BST (UK) »
I知 trying to find out more about my great great grandmother, Margaret Wilson. I know that she married Thomas Porter in 1846, and have the entry to the Airdrie or New Monkland parish register for October of that year. But I知 struggling to find a birth or death certificate for either Margaret or Thomas. Any suggestions anyone?

I take it you have used ScotlandsPeople? You won't get a birth certificate because civil registration didn't start until 1855.

Thank you both. Yes I致e been trying Scotland痴
People, and have looked in parish records for births (as before 1855) and both parish records and formal registration for deaths. No joy.
I can find Thomas as a single man in the 1841 census but not thereafter; I believe he died in a pit accident around 1850 but records of mining accidents are a bit hit and miss that early. So Margaret may have remarried but I知 having difficulty finding her!

Which of Thomas and Margaret's children are you descended from? Details for them may help finding Thomas and Margaret in the early censuses such as 1851.

Could this be Margaret in 1851?

Margaret Wilson 26 Hand Loom Weaver b. Stonehouse, Lanarkshire
James Porter 2 b. Airdrie, Lanarkshire
Thos Porter 9 Months b. Airdrie, Lanarkshire
Mary Carruthers 13 servant

Address: 39 Aitcheson St, New Monkland

I can't tell from the transcript what Margaret's marital status is showing as. The original image would let you confirm this.

From the details that Wendy posted earlier for possible deaths, I think the Airdrie one in 1899 looks likely. The other surname showing for that death registration is Lamont.

There is a marriage showing in Glasgow in 1859 for a Margaret Wilson to a John Lamont https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:XTTT-14Y which is a possible for a second marriage for Margaret.

There is this 1861 census entry:

John Lammond 37 engine keeper b. Oban
Margaret Lammond 34 b. Stanchouad, Lanark (Stonehouse?)
Malcolm Lammond 14
James P Lammond 12....possible for James P/orter?
Marion Lammond 10
Agnes Lammond 7
Mary Lammond 5
John Lammond 7 Months (https://familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:FQFQ-L7N
Robert Whitelaw 18

Address: 57 Aitchison St, Airdrie (same street that the Margaret we had in 1851 was living at then).
