Where did you find him in 1901?

Homer, did Jacob marry or die in Australia (these certificates should name his parents), or was he a war casualty?

Freebmd is not showing any births at all for anyone called Jacob Forden.

Trove has mention of a James Jacob Forden keeping an illegal gaming house in WA in 1934 - it's not the same Mr Forden by any chance is it?

Nothing in the GRO either. There is a marriage in 1901 Perth, Western Australia to Amy L Cole.  There is also a military record for a Jacob James b 1877, wife Amy.

That must be Homer's 1901 mention of Jacob.

Nothing for a James Forden around the right time in Freebmd either.

Do you know when Jacob came to Australia? I can't see any Jacob Fordens in the 1881 or 91 census. There are a few James but none born around the right time in Derbyshire.

Apart from his service record do you have any other documentation which confirms his year and place of birth?

I wonder if this Jacob Floden might be relevant - born Wilne - listed as Foden on FreeBMD https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:Q27K-GMJG

I think you might have something there Kay.  :) Jacob's marriage or d/c should confirm parent's names.

It is FODEN on the 1881 census as well. FLODEN is an error - there is no L but the flourish on the cross stroke of the F makes it look a little like an FL.

I'm sure that must be him Kay.  :)
