Otto: Hildburghausen
« on: Tuesday 11 September 18 04:50 BST (UK) »
Hi Dave
Just got a goldmine from Ahnenforschung.Net forum (Dunkelgraf). It is a write-up of my Otto line, Could I be a pest for a few entry translations?  ;D I'll start with these 2.
The 1st: Johann (should be Christian) Otto, Kaufmann to Eisfeld. I think I see "Huldreich" in there as wife. This would jibe with my paper trail (I have his wife as Helene Huldreich) Anything else gleaned would be most happily accepted!

The 2nd: Could you decipher Christian's middle name(s)? The writing seems to get thin, so I am at a loss as to what those names are (if they are, in fact, names!) Pretty sure,"Kaufmann to Eisfeld" is what it says underneath.

Much obliged, friend!

Hi Steve,

I know this is one for Dave  :) but I love looking at these things, so...  ;D
In the second image, the second name is "Albert". I can't read what comes next, though. (Starts with "G"..?)

Let's see what Dave's amazing powers of deception can come up with! (I love these posts!  ;D)

Agree with "Kaufmann zu Eisfeld".

Best regards,
Karen

I wonder if the one beginning with G is Gunther?

I think you could be right!
I was thinking it was "tt" in the middle, but it's "th" with a very long horizontal line.

We're getting there...   ;D

I've just had another look at the first image.

They have crossed out "Michael", have added "Christian", have then crossed out "Christian" and added "Christoph".

Someone was a bit confused, methinks...

Thank you, Karen & GG,
I originally thought it could be Albert, but it's such an English name, I was unsure. But I think it might be after all. Gunther-now that's German!
Thanks again!

Yes, not sure what happened there. I have other sources naming him "Johann Christian." If, in fact, this entry has his wife as "Huldreich," then I'd be certain it's the right guy.

Hi Karen
This is quite flattering but not quite right. I mostly get somewhere around 80 to 100 percent of these texts myself. For the rest, i utilize other people who are much better then i am. They are kind enough to help out when i am stuck. So these are quite often joint ventures and not all my own work.
This is what this forum is all about, mutual help
Just wanting to get that off my chest.

Hi Steve,
the second image reads Christian Albert Gunter Otto, Kaufmann zu Eisfeld.

I agree with Karen on the first Image
Johann Christoph Otto, Kaufmann zu Eisfeld.  "Michael" and Christian", crossed out

IŽll go for the rest later. It would be helpful to know what sort of doc the snippets are from. Makes it easier to make deductions etc

Dave

Hi Dave,
I was given this by a member on the Ahnenforschung.net forum. I believe it could be from a book outlining the lineages of prominent families in Hildburghausen. This starts with Joh. Stephan Otto. The latest date I see is 1903. Here is the full image.
I would be glad to also get Joh. Stephan's 2nd wife's surname I think it's "Friderica Anna Dorothea...?"
First wife could be Anna Christina Heglerin.

Thanks again, Dave!
