I don't think it's the same as a bowler. These hats didn't have the stiffened material like bowlers.
The crown was soft so it could be shaped.

Yes, more like a type of what I call a  cowboy hat maybe

Yes definitely. Isn't he a funny little guy, not at all like my English Redman s although he had a beautiful first wife.
