It may be that obtaining the wills is the only way. None of the GRO locations are close to me.

She married Arthur Elton in 1946, Bristol registration district. I’ve not found her in the 1939 Register under her maiden name, Meagher, so possibly still in Ireland then.

That is the will I found.

Mullingar, Westmeath Ireland: Gilligan/Wall/Meagher/Maher/Gray/O'Hara/Corroon (various spellings)
Bristol: Woodman/James/Derrick
Bristol/Somerset: Saunders/Wilmot
Gloucestershire:Woodman/Mathews/Tandy/Stinchcombe/Marten/Thompson
Wiltshire: Mathews
Carmarthen: Thomas, Lewis
Australia: Mary Lewis, transportee, married Henry Brown - what happened to her?

Hi Lisa, the 1962 Electoral Register for Winterbourne, Gloucestershire has this entry:

Plot 5, off Station Road, Winterbourne Down.
Kathleen Elton and Arthur R Elton

It doesn't help with a death date but if it is the correct lady it confirms the spelling of her first name.
Robbins - Wolverhampton.
Spooner - Monmouthshire & Wolverhampton.
Warner & Loundes - Dudley/West Bromwich.
Dod(g)son - Heysham/Liverpool/Wolverhampton

Hi Jool

That’s the right couple and right location.

Yes, I’ve tried to think of every possible variation of first name, but certainly in death registrations available online hers doesn’t seem to be there.

She was a tiny little lady, but with a very strong personality. In the years I knew her she never once swore.

Until dementia set in, and my mum cared for her: “Let’s give you a nice bath, Kit,” “ F**k off!”

This with a picture of the pope on the wall. “You can’t say that, Kit, look at the Pope up there!” Her response was along the lines of telling the Pope to go forth and multiply. Oh dear!

I can check the 2008 death index next week unless someone comes along beforehand.

The place the grant was issued is frequently not the place of death, just the most convenient office for the executors to attend to get all the paperwork done.

I see that Arthur and Kathleen had two children then.  I won't mention their names as they are probably still alive.

I assume you know about them?
