Another test I manage has been updated and is now 37% Ireland and Scotland and 63% England, Wales and Northwestern Europe.  It was 80% Gt Britain; 12% Ireland, Scotland and Wales; 3% each for Europe East and Europe West etc.

Although there was considerable overlap on the maps between Gt Britain & Ireland/Scotland/Wales the known tree has almost half the ancestors in Scotland or Ireland until at least 1770 and the rest English so this instance I think it's more closely reflects the known ancestry.

The Hugenot gtgtgtgt-grandfather probably falls in the Northwestern Europe percentage.

The thing is  -- that there are people out there that are RIGID in their belief of all this nonsense.

Just wondering what would happen if I created a totally false tree -- made up all the places and etcs... see what results they would give then.

I am happy that I now do not have my GGGGG floating around in the sea somewhere .. I have attempted to ensure that the Hinckley LEICESTER people are not in Hinckley Maine...

How about that Yesterday the Lifestory (ooo I accidentally typed Lie.....:) ) page told me my POPPa may well have enjoyed Winnie the Pooh!!

Now that is an unbelievable fact.. My Poppa wouldnt NOT read a book of any kind .. he was a little awkward in that respect..

but I get what they were showing me.

xin

Try- ing  to have a day without a moan today.
Xin,I hope Winnie the Pooh got something out of the association, too.

Slightly off Topic, but I am always surprised at the number of videos on YouTube where people open their results on camera, and are shocked at what they find. These are the ones who didn't read very much about ethnicity estimates before paying for their tests. These videos really do not help the general population understand the vagaries of ethnicity tests.

I have thought of doing my DNA from Ancestry but somehow the sceptical person in me wonders how accurate the results will be. It is about £80 so I may just save my money for the yearly sub.

My top match was classed as 1st-2nd cousin. In fact we are half-1st cousins, so that was accurate. The only person on the list that I already know is 4th-6th cousin, which is about right. (Shared gr-grandfather, through different wives, and a couple of generations removed.) I haven't gone any further yet.

Worrying, isn't it? Though I don't see where it could be wrong, unless there is some human behaviour to contend with! Is the lady in Canada in your matches?

If you are considering the Ancestry DNA test then wait until Black Friday in late November now - thats when the cheapest deal was last year so presumably the same this year.
