Catholic Church in Kiltiernan, Co. Dublin, Ireland in 1908?
« on: Thursday 13 September 18 01:16 BST (UK) »
My Great Grandparents lived in Kiltiernan in 1908 for a couple of years and were Catholics.  I’ve had no luck locating a marriage certificate for them and can’t find baptismal records for their two children that would of been born there.  I contacted Sandyford parish and was told that there aren’t any catholic records for that area during that time.

So now I’m wondering was there a Catholic Church there in 1908?

Also, if the GRO in Dublin (or maybe it was Roscommon)...I contacted have no records for the marriage and there doesn’t appear to be records of the baptisms, is it likely that the priest never made a written copy or the records are lost?

Any ideas?

Thanks!  Sharron.

Is it in County Dublin? You haven't put a county.

I guessed it was Dublin because it's the only Sandyford I know.
Catholic registers for Sandyford and Glencullen for baptisms until 1904 and 1905 respectively and marriages to 1909.

Do you know when your great-grandparents married and when the 2 children were born? Are you sure all theses events happened in Sandyford parish?
As your great-grandparents are presumably deceased you can tell us their names and dates.
If the 2 children are also deceased you can give their names and possible birth years. We're not allowed to name people who may be living.

Website for Irish civil records   https://www.irishgenealogy.ie/en
It has births 1864-1916 and (Catholic) marriages 1864-1941.

Thanks for the reply.  I’ve pretty much exhausted this Avenue and the records aren’t there,  I contacted the GRO directly and they searched for the marriage and couldn’t find it.  But thanks again for the suggestion.

According to the 1911 census they had been married 2 years which i assumed would be 1908 but most likely early 1909 as their first child was born Dec 1909.

There doesn’t appear to be any baptismal records for the 2 children born in Kiltiernan but there are baptismal records for the children born in a booterstown later on once they move.

So I’m pretty much stuck!  I was just wondering if the Catholic Church was around in Kiltiernan back then as I believe the new one came into service in 1920.

To answer your question do I know these events happened in Sandyford Parish...well I’m not certain about the marriage but the births yes I’m certain as the birth records are available on the Irish genealogy website.

Anyway, thanks for the reply.

The Catholic Directory says that Kilternan church was part of Sandyford Parish and was blessed in 1929. Very pretty little church.
Begg - Dublin, Limerick, Cardiff
Brady - Dublin
Breslin - Wexford, Dublin
Byrne - Wicklow
O'Hara - Wexford, Kingstown
McLoghlin - Roscommon
Lawlor - Meath, Dublin
Lynam - Meath and Renovo, Pennsylvania

Thanks for your reply.  I now wonder where the Catholics that lived there had their children baptized?  Also, I wonder why the GRO don’t have the marriage record for them...it’s puzzling.
