Colville Square Bayswater
« on: Thursday 13 September 18 20:13 BST (UK) »
Would a person, domestic servant,  living at 23 Colville Square in 1932 be living at their employer's address or would this be their own address? In other words, would this have been a reasonably prosperous household or more modest dwellings?
Also, is there a way of finding out on the 1939 register who lived at that address in 1939?
Thanks for any info.

In 1911 the occupant of 23 Colville Square was a Professor of Music,  his son was a Barrister at Law and he had staff of a cook and a housemaid, but the district could have changed status by 1932.
Looking at newspapers in 1932 No.31. Colville Square had  flat No. 2 advertised, so the other buildings could have been converted into flats
We are not allowed to do look ups in the 1939 register.

There is an advert in the West London Observer - Friday 28 May 1937 for a flat in Colville Square, third floor, three rooms, bath, 22s 6d a week.

By doing a free address search on the 1939 you will find there are 5 households for 23 Colville Square, therefore it would imply a building split to accommodate a number of individuals.

If you type "Colville Square" "street view" on g00gle you should find several hits (mostly from estate agents).  You will see 5 storey houses with basements and what were probably originally attic rooms for servants.
