Where do I start looking for German births and baptisms.
Looking for the birth of Hermann Bollmann born about 1844,  Lesum, Hannover, Lower Saxony, Germany or Bremerhaven, Bremen, Germany. He left Bremerhaven as a crew member of the
SS Louis Kniffler bound for Sydney, Australia in 1865. In 1869 he married Rebecca Funston who was born in Ireland about 1851, Rebecca arrived in Sydney in 1865. Hermann died in 1916, Leichhardt, New South Wales. I've searched about every where online but can't locate his birth or parents.

Maybe try;

That is so weird ... German language being used on german sites! ;)
So, maybe it is time to learn the basics ?   (I've had to do that myself for Swedish and Finnish. I've still got some long goto lists with the most used words)

On the other hand .....Have a good look at the left hand side of that page There is an option to set it to English. Not all gets translated however. Personally I think Google translate does a better job. Give it a try.

Hi  davecapps,  Have already seen that one and I think one of the has the mothers name transcribe wrongly. According to Hermanns death cert his father, named only as Bollmann, was a rope maker, so are there any census's for around 1844?

I'm to old to learn basics, I already live in a country that I don't speak the language.  ;D  Tried the English button but it's all still in German.  ???
