Back to 1861 - is that the right  John Hopper we are searching  ???

If so, they are living with William’s brother in law John Langham.

1851 1884/180/6

Mary Langman 53 yrs
John Langman 30 yrs
Mary Langman 18 yrs

I this age isn’t right either  ::) so may have to ignore.

Amended to add "1861"

Langman / Largman / or even Farquhar are suggestions on other sites (1861)

The only thing I know for certain is his birth date 1/6/1859

Possible mother's maiden name Counter (as it's the only birth registered in Devon in that time)...How reliable do you think that is?

Possible 1871 Census inc Wm and Mary

..the 1861 Census that shows them living with John and Mary Largham adds up with the dates...what about the name Largham?

Do I follow the Largham Censuses and ignore the Counter birth? Or the other way round?

Could there be a possibility that links the 2 I wonder?

I think you should purchase his marriage certificate to check his father’s name and occupation.
Then the birth certificate for the information therein.

It could be that mother was Counter but then something happened and William then married Mary Farquhar.

Thanks
