He was a company commander. In 1796 we were attacking St Vincent which was French. There were heavy losses and perhaps your ancestor was KIA.

I don't know whether officers had personal records, but I would have thought so. Also promotions etc. were posted in the Gazette.

I'm surprised no expert has been along and seen your Thread.
