Looking for Wilson family, Glasgow, born 1880's
« on: Friday 14 September 18 18:25 BST (UK) »
My maternal grandmother was Alice Wilson, she had 7 siblings, Mary Ann dob 1883, John 1885, Nellie 1887, Malcolm 1890, Maggie 1895, Christina 1898, Francis 1900. I never met her and her daughter Margaret was my mum. We were told that my mum had no family, but these were all her aunts and uncles. Any info welcome

Welcome to rootschat, Lynne.

Did you get your information from Ancestry, FindMyPast, or some other source?

Are you looking for marriages, children and deaths for the aunts and uncles?

Who were Alice's parents?

Welcome to Rootschat Lynne if you haven't already I would register with https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/ it holds all the Scottish records and census

I had a quick look and I believe I have your family in the 1901Census in the Anderston area Alice's mother appears to be Margaret Wilson age 42 so born about 1859 There is also a John Wilson age 63 possibly her father in law can't see her husband but he could possibly be on the other page

Brother Malcolm appears to have died in WW1. His sister Alice received part of his War Gratuity ( Register of Soldiers Effects on Ancestry). He was killed in action on 14th Sept 1914. No known grave but he is commemorated on La Ferte-sous-Souarre Memorial in Ile de France. He was with the 1st Battalion Cameron Highlanders and seems to have joined up in Glasgow in 1907 ( regt. no 2891).  Findagrave have a copy of a news report of his death which includes a picture of him in uniform.

John age 63 in 1901 is actually Alice’s father. However he is shown as 44 in 1891. He was born Tyrone Ireland but his wife Margaret was from Glasgow.
