Thomas Beavis of Heath Farm
« on: Saturday 15 September 18 00:55 BST (UK) »
Can I please have some advice about how to access the Heath Farm records for my ancestor Thomas Beavis/Bevis/Bavis, who lived on/worked on this farm from at least 1841-1861?  When we visited Gog-Magog farm in 2016, we were advised that their historic records have been deposited in a community archive, which we didn't have time to investigate properly at the time.

Thomas Beavis 1794-1864, wife Mary nee Tabor, 1788-1867. Their son Thomas did work on the farm for a while, at least at the time of the 1851 Census. He emigrated to South Australia in 1855, so we know his story from then on.
Thank you,  Meredith.

Is this the same place?

An email to the owners?  They might be able to point you in the right direction.

Otherwise, maybe try to find out the closest local archives to Stapleford, or a local history group.

thank you for your responses, Ruskie.  I've emailed the farm owners, but didn't get a reply - they'd told me when we visited, that their historic records had been handed over, so they wouldn't have anything for me anyway.
The Stapleford link you included was for the other Stapleford in Nottinghamshire, but the other links you included were interesting.
I'll keep trying to find a link to a local library/archive where the records may be kept.
Cheers, Meredith

I realise that the farm owner won't be able to help you with the specific information you are after, but I thought they might know where their historical records were deposited. It might be worth another email, or even a snail mail letter, as emails can get lost in amongst long lists of other emails. As they are running a business it is probable that they employ someone to deal with emails, and yours could easily have been overlooked.

I wasn't sure if that was the right Stapleford - sorry about that.

Very good advice, Ruskie.  Will try both options.  Thanks, Meredith.
