BT 8500 call blocker phone query
« on: Sunday 16 September 18 09:31 BST (UK) »
I am wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

I have the main phone downstairs and an extension upstairs with no problem up until now but recently the extension phone has been coming on with a blank screen and staying on.

When I press the calls button it lights up perfectly normally.

Any suggestions?

I have one of those too,but with 2 extra extensions.Sometimes the one in our bedroom (on the 2nd floor) comes on in the middle of the night and shines bright blue. It goes off after a few minutes, but always wakes me up.

I'll be interested to hear others opinions on your query.

Carol

Yes, I have the same phone and the same problem. I also get frequent "Line cord errors" displayed but I suspect that is more to do with the line/exchange than the actual phone itself.

No idea what causes the backlight to come on randomly although it is not as frequent now as it used to be for whatever reason.

There is no way to update the firmware on the handset so if the problem persists and is significant enough to do something about it, you might have to consider replacing the units with the newer 8600 model.

Many thanks for the replies. Mine seems to come on at night and stays on.

From what Angus says, I think I will have to carry on placing it face down so the light doesn't disturb me.

Apart from this niggle I have been very pleased with the phone. It certainly does block unwanted calls.

Regards

You could try rebooting the handset when you go to bed at night, see if that helps - hold the red button down for about seven seconds, leave it off for a wee while and then press the red button again to switch it back on. No guarantees it will make any difference, but you never know.

Also, if it's just the one handset that is illuminating, can you swap the handsets over?

And yes, it does a great job of handling unwanted callers - had mine for nearly four years now and it has dealt with nearly 2000 calls.

I was going to suggest the swapping the handsets round. I do that with mine every few months as the one in the bedroom is rarely used.

Thanks for that, a good tip that hadn’t occurred to me although mine rarely used.

I have switched them so will see how that goes.

Many thanks for all the interest.

I switched the two handsets and now the one previously downstairs has started to switch the backlight on. Does that sound like the base unit is faulty?
