Help need to identify cap badge
« on: Sunday 16 September 18 20:14 BST (UK) »
I hope someone might be able to help me identify this cap badge. It came with an assorted lot of WW1 badges but this one we have been unable to identify. It might not be a military cap badge. The motto is that of the clan Macdonald and it seems to look like a clan cap badge but the central entwined letters are wrong for MacDonald.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks,Peter

I'm pretty certain that it is not a military badge. I don't think the motto on its own should be seen as exclusive to Clan Donald, it would need the castle fist and sword for that.  I'd guess at it belonging to someone or an organisation with initials JD "adopting" the motto.  Speculation though.

What are the dimensions of the item?  Also, what kind of fitting is on the reverse and are there any markings?

(In other words, could it be anything other than a cap badge?)
