James (chewbacca) Matthews family tree

Hi I am researching the Matthews family tree for my Husband.  His grandmother was Mary Humphreys, Her parents where John Humphreys & Honor Matthews.  Honor's father was John Matthews & Ann Bushnell.   John Matthews was one of James Matthews sons.
In the book Fairfield Folk by Frances Brown it says that William Matthews (Redshirt) married  Mary Ann (Polly)  it says in the book that Mary Ann maiden name was Bushnell.  From looking at some of the forums on this site it says that Mary Ann's maiden name was Holman.

Would love any information about this, which could help me further with my research

Seems very strange for nicknames to be on any docs.
