John Henry Richards
« on: Tuesday 18 September 18 05:13 BST (UK) »
I'm sure I started a thread about this gentleman before but I'm not able to find it, just a quick question, he definitely served during the Great War but I have no information about his service. I have his DoB and his birthplace, am I able to locate him and with whom he served with this information? what information is on the medal cards, will it help me before I start ploughing through them at £3.50 a time. There are 4 John Henry Richards listed but 200+ John H Richards, maybe a next of kin or home address ?- Thanks in advance for any advice - Richard
James, Jinks - Stoke On Trent,  Richards, Rees, Morgans - Llandilofawr, Llangadock, Wilding- Hereford, Underwood, Sitch, Thorne, Day all West Ham, and Leytonstone. .

Medal rolls and index cards wouldn't give any information about family or address.

There might be a service or pension record, newspaper articles, absent voter lists etc on subscription sites.

If you post his name, parents' names, birth date and last known address (pre-1918) we can do some searching.

Philip

Thanks Phillip,  his parents were William and Elizabeth Richards , he was born on 28/6/ 1893,  his address in 1911 was Glasbran, Ffairfach, Llandeilofawr, Carmarthenshire. Basically it could be anywhere around Llandilo,  Llangadock or Carmarthenshire.  But he got married in Barnet so maybe moved up there between 1911 and 1914. His wife was Minnie Wilding but they didn't marry until 1923, so that is irrelevant , I'd have thought.  Thanks for looking - richard

No need to cough up cash for National Archives medal cards.  They are nearly all on Ancestry, via your local library perhaps.

Thanks Ainslie, I didn't realise that, I'm currently with FindMyPast so maybe have a month or 2 on Anc. But after receiving some advice on here, I'm not sure there is any point as it won't tell me anything to prove I've got the right person. I would have thought a DoB would be relevant but doesn't seem to be.  :'( :'( :'(
