Catherine Brown b.1871 Cambridgeshire 1891 census
« on: Wednesday 19 September 18 15:15 BST (UK) »
Hi all, I can't find the 1891 census for Catherine Brown b.1871 Fen Ditton.  There should also be an Italian boarding with her and her family surname of Di Maria.  Her parents were John and Emma Brown I think.  Thank you.

Where do you have her in 1881.

The only one I can see that matches with those parents is born Cambridge & living there in 1881 & 1891  :-\

I wondered if the boarder is listed separately on the census?

Is the family we have found the one you are looking for as there is no mention of Fen Ditton on the census.  Perhaps if you tell us where the information about the boarder came from it may help.

What other information do you have about Catherine

What information have you got that there should be an Italian boarding with the family?

Any idea how old this person was?

My 2nd cousin says that Di Maria was boarding with the family and that he had an affair with Catherine Brown resulting in a child that was brought up as a Brown.  Catherine married Henry Noah Ottley in 1893 in Romford, Essex.  I can't find this Di Maria anywhere and I don't like to keep asking her about it.  Just thought someone might find him.  But no matter.  Thanks all for looking.

Even if you found a Mr Di Maria living in the locality that alone would not mean he was the father of the child.  It would be unfair (in my humble opinion) to label him as father of an illegitimate child posthumously unless he is named as such on a surviving document.
Is a father named on the child's birth cert or christening? If not, any suggestions made 125 years later are best left alone, as you will never know.
