CD Players
« on: Thursday 20 September 18 12:10 BST (UK) »
Hi,
I am looking for a CD Player (for an elderly person who is bed-bound) with and without head phones.
Must be easy to operate and as they like to listen to talking books it must be able to start where they left off. Bigger than a personal CD player and with no radio. Any suggestions?
Your help would be appreciated.
Regards
Bob.

For your benefit I hope I am contradicted by others here, but I have never heard of a CD player that will carry on from where you left off, apart from temporarily pausing it. If you switch the device off you would lose where you are up to. Almost any CD player would have a pause button.

Have you considered a tablet, and transferring the CD contents to it? Most tablet music players will allow you to carry on from where you are up to.

It is a simple task to transfer the contents of CDs to a memory stick. I'll be happy to expand on this if you need it.

Martin

Would an old fashioned tape recorder do?  From memory you can stop and start tapes from where you left off and they are easy to use with few buttons to press (play, stop, rewind, fast forward, eject) and you can plug in headphones.

You'd have to be able to get talking books in the right format to play on them though  :-\

Tapes, either video or audio are difficult to get now. Charity shops won't touch them any more. My late mother's box set of Tenko ended up in the tip.

I would digitise the books and put on a tablet.

I don't see the user's age as an issue, I have had my bus pass for a long time and am quite comfortable loading CDs onto my phone and playing through bluetooth.

Hi,
Thank you all for your suggestions.

What I meant was something like the Sony Discman ESP2 which has a Resume function.
However this is headphones only and small buttons, difficult for arthritic fingers.

Hi,
Sorry I haven't got back sooner. Spent loads of time on the internet, but can't find what I am looking for. I thought it would be quite simple. Wrong.
What I really need is a larger version of the discman with larger buttons, resume function and able to use without headphones if you so wish.
I will carry on looking.
Once again many thanks to you all for your input.
Regards.

Not if they are talking books you get out of the library on loan.  It would be easier on the person to listen to rather than hold a book with arthritic fingers, they can still enjoy their love of books.
